The Greater Manchester County Records Office

Holds a wide range of documents which can be viewed
by the general public.


These include:-

The National St. Catherine's House Index for Births, Marriages and Deaths from 1837 to 1940 (viewing by appointment only)
The National Probate Index 1858 to 1944
Newspapers, Trade Directories, Family Estate Papers,
Business Records and Local Maps.

The Conservation Department can be contacted with any queries about the restoration of documents.
The Research service can be used for a fee.

A spacious search room is available for public use and also a refreshment area with hot and cold drinks machine and public toilets.
Limited disabled access is available, including a lift.
Staff are always on hand to help and advise.

Opening Times


Mon 1.00pm - 5.00pm
Tue/Wed/Thur/Fri 9.00am - 5.00pm
Sat (2nd and 4th of the month) 9.00am - 12.00pm and 1.00pm - 4.00pm
On Saturdays 24 hours notice is required for records to be produced.
