A Charity established for the rescue, care
and protection of neglected, ill-treated or distressed
horses, ponies, donkeys and mules

The charity was founded in 1932 in memory of Ada Cole, a pioneer campaigner for equine justice, whose efforts resulted in legislation to stop the exportation of live horses for the meat trade.

Broadlands has been the Charity's home since 1961 and it is from here that its invaluable work is carried out.

Broadlands is not a retirement home but a centre of rescue from cruelty and neglect for horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. All too often these animals rely on the intervention of the Charity, having suffered abuse, either intentionally or through ignorance.

When cases of cruelty or hardship come to our notice the main aim is to aquire the animal in need of help and remove it to Broadlands as discreetly and quickly as possible with the help of the appropriate authorities.

Rescues receive immediate attention from a veterinary surgeon, in a special isolation block at the stables. When fit they are housed in good stabling or turned out on our forty five acres of green pasture.

Following rehabilitation, we aim to place rescues in approved, caring foster homes on a permanent, 'free loan' agreement under the Charity's supervision. Regular checks take place to ensure their continued well-being. No animal is ever sold.

The work of the Ada Cole Rescue Stables is totally dependant on the generosity ofits supporters through donations, bequests and sponsorship. Visitors are welcome at the stables throughout the year.

Since 1932, The Ada Cole rescue Stables has helped many hundreds of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules, a fitting legacy to its founder.

Sponsorship Scheme

Some of our rescues, whether through age, frailty or some other special reason are unfortunately not suitable for rehoming and remain permanent borders at Broadlands. Your sponsorship could help to contribute towards the upkeep of one or more of these individual animals.

Sponsors will, for a small annual fee, receive a description and photograph of their particular animal as well as a half yearly report and regular newsletter.

Sponsorship makes an excellent gift for a birthday, Christmas or other special occasion.

If you are interested in sponsorship, please print out and complete the form then return it to the address at the top of the page.
