Richard Casey - Piano
Richard Casey was born in 1966 and started playing the piano at the age of
seven. He later attended the Royal Northern College of Music Junior Department
studying the piano with John Gough, achieving several competition successes,
reaching the finals of the Surrey Young Pianist of the Year and the BBC Young
Musician of the Year Competitions. After graduating in Modern Languages from St
John's College, Cambridge, Richard returned to the RNCM as a postgraduate,
studying with Marjorie Clementi, where he made many appearances as a soloist
with the College Symphony and Wind Orchestras.
Richard is now much in demand as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician
and plays all over Britain and Europe. Richard's solo performances include Oiseaux
Exotiques by Messiaen with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and
the Piano Concerto by Michael Tippett with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra.
Richard also freelances with the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool
Philharmonic, East of England and English Northern Philharmonia Orchestras on a
regular basis, in addition to devoting much time to contemporary music with
Psappha Contemporary Music Ensemble, of which he is a founder member, and the
Cambridge New Music Players.
