Tim Williams studied timpani and percussion at the Royal Northern College of Music graduating in 1990 with GRNCM, PGRNCM and PPRNCM diplomas. Tim is now a freelance musician regularly playing with the country's leading orchestras and ensembles. In 1991 Tim formed the highly successful Manchester-based contemporary music ensemble, Psappha, a chamber ensemble specialising in the music and music-theatre of the twentieth century. Tim has performed various concertos and solo works including Martin Butler's Going with the Grain, Stockhausen's Kontakte(with Richard Casey), Anthony Gilbert's Moonfaring(with Jennifer Langridge - 'cello), Miki's Marimba Spiritual and Panufnik's Concertino for Timpani, Percussion and Strings. In 1995 he played in the première of Peter Maxwell Davies Stedman Doubles (1955) for clarinet and three percussionists. Recently, Psappha commissioned a work for solo percussion by Gordon McPherson entitled Moses, which Tim premièred as part of Psappha's 1996 Autumn Series. The work has been recorded by BBC Radio 3 and will be broadcast shortly. Works have also been written for him by James Wishart and Robin Hartwell. David Routledge was born in East Riding, Yorkshire and began playing the violin at the age of eight. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Lydia Mordkovitch gaining a GMus RNCM, PG Dip RNCM and PPRNCM (Chamber Music). Whilst at college David performed at Master Classes given by the Vermeer Quartet and also the Franz Schubert Quartet. Since leaving College, David has been working as a freelance musician throughout the United Kingdom and abroad. As well as his commitment to Psappha, he also plays regularly with the Hallé Orchestra, European Community Chamber Orchestra and the Andrusier Ensemble. Solo appearances include Gemini by Gerhard with Psappha, Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No.1, Schnittke's Quasi Violin Sonata and Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante. |
