Programme Note: A Birthday card for Hans

A little meditation on the words:

E nel tuo, nel mio bicchiero, si sommerga ogni pensiero
(In your and my glass every thought is submerged - from the final of Act II Così fan tutte)

As a tribute to Hans Werner Henze - a wonderful friend and most esteemed colleague on the occassion of his seventieth birthday.

First Performance Details

The first performance of A Birthday Card for Hans was given on 23rd June 1997 at Kirkwall Cathederal, Orkney Islands as part of the 1997 St.Magnus Festival. The work was performed by Psappha and was conducted by Paul MacAlindin.

First Recording Details

The work was recorded by Psappha for CD on 15th December 1997 and will be released on the British Music Label BM026 on 23rd March 1998. See Psappha Debut CD for details.
