The Story so far...

Aged 18, I left the cultural armpit of the universe, for Nottingham as a Medical student. This achieved the aim of spending 2 years more being a student than most people and getting a trade that paid off 5 years student debts! Fortunately, I survived the course and was thrown into the overly dramatic world of being a doctor. After a period of self harm as a hospital paediatrician, I finally turned to the dark side of the force, and trained to be a General Practitioner.

Having joined a large city practice in Hyde, I  married the practice manager, Amanda, and was blessed with a daughter, Zoe. All seemed set for a thirty year sentance in Manchester, but things change...

After a holiday spent by sea in Florida, we made the descision to up root and find somewhere better to live and bring up a family in. We faxed a CV in response to an advert in the BMJ, and within a week were offered a job in New Zealand. We made a leap of faith, sold up, cashed up, shipped out and flew around the world to the peace of South Island New Zealand. At the same time we were making our departure plans, Amanda became pregnant, and to our amazement we found out we were expecting twins!

Emma & William were born normally at 4.30 pm and 4.40pm on 10.7.1997, weighing in at 6lb 14oz and 5lb 8oz respectively. They are growing well, and are (of course) beautiful!

We are now living in a quiet little costal town called Riverton, near Invercargill, on the southmost end of the country. A world away from Manchester.

Joel Fleischman  is still in Cicely, Alaska...

Brendan O'Brien has now had his article published in Diver magazine, as well as getting one of his photos on the cover. We have created a web page here to distribute some of his pictures on the net.To look at some of his work, follow the weave.
