Bramwell pattern
A stocking stitch Sweater ideal for knitting in
our new 4 ply "BraMarl"
Sizes 34 (36: 38: 40: 42: 44) ins.
1 cone required up to size 38 ins. two cones for
sizes 40 ins. and above.
Tension
28 sts. and 40 rows = 4 ins. (10 cms.) knitted at
tension 7. Ribs knitted at tension
Measurements
Finished chest/bust 40 (42: 44: 46: 48: 50) ins.
Length 27 ins.
Sleeve length 22.5 (22: 21.5: 21: 20.5: 20) ins.
Back
Cast on 140 (148: 154: 162: 168: 176) stitches in
1 x 1 rib.
Knit 36 rows at tension 3 on both beds.
Transfer the ribber stitches to the front bed
filling the empty needles.
Stitch size 7. ***
R.C.000. Knit to R.C. 150 (150: 146: 146: 140:
140). Place a marker thread over each end needle to mark the
position of the armholes.
Decrease 1 st. at each end on next and every
alternate row eighteen times. Knit to R.C. 240.
Shape shoulders. Cast off 7 (8: 8: 9: 10: 10)
sts. at the beginning of the next 4 (2: 8: 6: 2: 10) rows
then 6 (7: 7: 8: 9: 0) sts. at the beginning of the next 6
(8: 2: 4: 8: 0) rows. 40 stitches will remain in work. Cast
off.
Front
Knit as for the back to R.C. 210. Shape front
neck. Cast off the centre 20 sts.
Working on the stitches on the right of centre,
decrease one stitch at the neck edge (left edge) every
alternate row ten times.
Shape shoulders at R.C. 240. Cast off 7 (8: 8: 9:
10: 10) stitches at the shoulder edge (right edge) on
alternate rows 2 (1: 4: 3: 1: 5) times then 6 (7: 7: 8: 9:
0) stitches on alternate rows 3 (4: 1: 2: 4: 0) times. All
stitches should now have been cast off on the right side of
the neck.
Now work the second side of the neck to match the
front, reversing the shaping. The neck edge will be the
right edge and the shoulder edge will be the left edge.
Sleeves
Cast on 70 (72: 74: 76: 82: 84) stitches and knit
as for the back to ***.
R.C.000. Increase one stitch at each end of the
knitting every 6 (6: 5: 5: 5: 5) rows 28 (27: 30: 29: 29:
28) times until 126 (126: 134: 134: 140: 140) stitches are
in work.
Knit to R.C. 170 (166: 160: 154: 150: 146). Place
a marker thread over each end stitch. Decrease 1st. at each
end on next and every alternate row eighteen times until 90
(90: 98: 98: 104: 104) stitches remain in work. Cast off.
Join the right shoulder seam.
Neckband
Arrange 140 needles for 1 x 1 rib.
Knit 20 rows of rib at tension 3 on both beds.
Transfer the ribber stitches to the main bed
filling the empty needles.
Lower the ribber bed.
With the wrong side of the work facing you, bring
up the work between the beds. Hang the neckline onto the
needles already holding stitches.
Tension 7. Knit one row. Cast off.
